Cartridge Kit Installation Instructions

Wesco cartridge kits are rugged, dependable and trouble-free, if correctly installed. Reasonable care must be taken to obtain maximum life and prevent unnecessary engine downtime.

The following items must be checked carefully:

1. Rocker arm pin and bushing must be free but not sloppy. Replace if worn excessively.
2. Install new rocker arm tappet pad (Cooper-Bessemer® engines only). Worn pads create extremely high frictional loads against the valve stem nut, which can cause the valve stem to break.
3. Oil cups on rocker arm should be replaced if lid is broken. Fill with 90 wt. differential oil or equivalent.
   NOTE: It is very important that tappet be kept lubricated.
4. Hydraulic lifters (if applicable) must be set correctly and operating properly - see hydraulic adjuster installation instructions.
   NOTE: Never attempt to adjust a hydraulic lifter with the engine running. This can cause temporary overheating which will severely damage the internal seals on the fuel injection valve cartridge.
5. Gasket seating surfaces in head: old gasket must be removed completely and surface must be smooth and free of cracks.
